The Centre for Community Development is a partnership organization working with people’s organizations; in particular those involved with poor and marginalized communities in South Asia. We believe in integrated holistic methods for solving problems of communities. The CCD combines its support for people’s organizations with practical projects aimed at promoting peace, social harmony and equality, participatory democracy, health and a clean environment, welfare, and improving the quality of life of women, children, elderly, youth and marginalized groups. We offer support to renew social responsibility, restore rights, awareness about development and advocacy issues affecting the communities.

The CCD also seeks to promote voluntarism and to enable people to join in common endeavour for social justice and development. We have a specific contribution to make in the interests of people whose voices are not heard and whose needs and aspirations are ignored. We seek to highlight important issues about social, economic rights and to encourage improvement in the policies and practices of governments and international agencies.

VISION:

Our vision is to work towards a just and caring society where people are compassionate, where people live in dignity, where their rights are respected, where their basic needs are met, and where people are actively involved in influencing public policy so as to eradicate poverty, deprivation and social exclusion through people-controlled, people-led, effective, people-based programs and solutions.

MISSION:

Our mission is to assist in the eradication of poverty by empowering poor and marginalized communities in particular poor and oppressed communities, and people in Sri Lanka through provision of potential resources and implementation of programs for healthy living, social and gender justice, capacity building, advocacy, research and development, education, training and awareness.

We believe that our initiatives will strengthen democratic institutions and values, create economic opportunity for all, improve access to education, offer opportunities for creative work, promote leadership and talent, provide good healthcare and health education, bring about social equality, fairness, and dignity of life, especially for women and deprived communities, protect the environment and improve the lives of the poor.
