War Widows Project works to bring hope, dignity, and self-reliance to the war widows in northeast Tamil homeland in ilankai and help them become equal members of the society.
Its mission is to maximise the full potential of the war widows through empowerment, rehabilitation, integration and participatory engagements that serve their needs and aspirations in local, regional, national and international development.
We are also pressing for specific provisions for war widows to be implemented by the Sri Lankan government and the United Nations agencies.
The project works directly with war widows in the Tamil homeland.
Through,
- Training the war widow on entrepreneurial skills;
- Assisting with financial support to war widows and their dependents;
- income generating activities;
- Sensitising the public on the rights of the war widows and their dependents;
- Promoting participation of war widows in decision making at all levels; and
- Advocating for increase employment opportunities for war widows
